Standing up for Landowners. Standing up to Government.

Headshot of Attorney Mark L. Merrell

  • Condemnation Attorney

Mark Merrell practices exclusively in the area of eminent domain and condemnation law. He began his career at an international law firm representing governmental and public-use entities acquiring property and rights of way for large scale infrastructure projects. Mark now focuses on representing the interests of property owners facing these issues, and his experience having been on the other side has proved invaluable in advising his landowner clients and positioning their claims for maximum recovery.

Immersed in every aspect of the eminent domain process, Mark advises clients during all stages of the condemnation journey, from evaluating an initial offer to preparing for and navigating a jury trial. He has handled hundreds of cases involving the full spectrum of public use projects: from TXDOT road widenings to oil and gas pipeline takings and everything in between.

Mark's clients are as varied as the projects he has worked on. Prior clients have included Fortune 500 companies; real estate developers with millions of square footage in their portfolio; special purpose entities, including multi-site churches; and countless small business owners. Regardless of the representation, Mark's goals remain the same: to maximize the client's recovery while, at the same time, relieving those clients of burdens that can often feel overwhelming. Mark's singular focus has resulted in the recovery of tens of millions of dollars in additional compensation for his clients.

A frequent speaker on the topic of eminent domain, Mark is an Affiliate Member of Owners' Counsel of America, the nation's preeminent association of eminent domain attorneys devoted to the representation of landowners.

Mark lives in Katy with his wife, Allison, and their four kids. He and Allison are past recipients of the Katy Elks Lodge Family of the Year. Mark was an inaugural inductee of the Katy ISD Athletics Hall of Honor and is on the board of the Athletic Booster Club for Tompkins High School.
